I Barely Like Tea

I don’t like coffee

and I barely like tea

but the woman sitting

across from me

I will fall in love with

My excitement already brewing

as we steep in memories,

experiences, shared values

She warns me

how she has triple bandaged her heart,

still holding scars from

a previous scalding

But she is an astonishing blend

of intellect and intrigue

Her flavor, intoxicating

The finish, divine

Her beauty and warmth remain

long after my tea has turned cold

The scent grows stronger

with each moment, each date,

but also more subtle, more special

This aroma has not drifted my way

in a long time

I don’t like coffee

and I barely like tea

but this woman sitting

across from me

I have fallen in love with
